Wanderlust with Us Issue VII - May 8, 2020
Mamma Mia! Here we go again.. with another exciting issue of Wanderlust With Us! We wish all of our amazing clients and mothers a very special day, celebrating you, and how much you mean to us. This year we hope to give you the gift of travel with our weekly roundup of books, movies, recipes and more! Enjoy racing the streets of Monaco, feeding baby elephants in Nairobi, and uncovering hidden secrets of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient and Modern World.
What We're Watching....
The family drama may feel familiar, but the setting will tempt you to visit the island of Kauai. The least visited of the popular Hawaiian islands, it is one of the few that boasts all four seasons – sometimes in just a day. Despite the difficult subject matter of how to settle a will and large estate, there are plenty of heart-warming moments that make you crave Hawaii. Speaking of large estates, this oceanfront villa would be the perfect escape for you and your family.
Even if you’re not a Formula 1 fan, this Ron Howard film tells the true story of two of the most colorful and prolific racers from the 1970’s, including Niki Lauda who is still very much integral in today’s race scene. You’ll travel to multiple tracks across the world in the movie, but the one we most want to attend is Monaco Grand Prix, to have been raced in just two weeks. When we do, we want to be trackside on the champagne terrace at the Hotel Metropole.
One of Woody Allen’s more contemporary satires has all the hallmarks of his usual work with unrequited love, marriages on the rocks; all woven together to reveal a few unexpected twists and turns around the streets and monuments of one of our favorite cities! The hotel in the film is the Intercontinental de la Ville which has been newly re-imagined as the fresh and stunning Rocco Forte Hotel de la Ville.
If you enjoy a feel good Hallmark movie and baby elephants, we think you will love this one! The film follows Kristen Davis as she embarks on a solo African safari and meets the attractive elephant conservationist, Rob Lowe. For those of you that have visited the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, we hope this brings back those fond memories!
Off the Shelf
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter
This quirky and light-hearted novel set on the Italian Riviera is the story of an almost love affair that begins in 1962 and resurfaces fifty years later in contemporary Hollywood. It weaves together real life Hollywood icons like Richard Burton on the set of Cleopatra with the fictional story. If you love Cinqueterre and Portofino you’ll love this magnificent setting and nowhere celebrates it better than the Belmond Splendido.
Seven Wonders by Ben Mezrich
Author Ben Mezrich is best known for his nonfiction smash hits, The Social Network and Bringing Down the House. This adventure novel takes you behind the scenes of the Seven Wonders of Ancient and Modern World, including Machu Picchu, Christ the Redeemer, and the Roman Colosseum. It’s a race around the globe, to uncover the hidden secrets of a not so ancient secret society.
Refreshing ReTREAT
We are quickly approaching summer and it is heating up! Cool down with these refreshing and healthy homemade Peach Strawberry Popsicles that are fun to make. Enjoy this easy recipe from our great partners at Marriott Luxury Brands on a hot sunny day!
Peach Strawberry Popsicles
Ingredients
3 cups strawberries - pureed to 1.5 cups
3 cups peaches, frozen will do - pureed to 1.5 cups
2 tablespoons honey, divided
2/3 cup Greek vanilla yogurt
Popsicle mold
Preparation
In a blender, puree strawberries with four teaspoons honey then set aside. Clean blender, puree sliced peaches with two teaspoons of honey, set aside.
Layer the popsicles as follows; 2 teaspoons strawberry puree, 1 teaspoon yogurt, 2 teaspoons peach puree and repeat. Make a fruit puree your last layer. You can also add bits of sliced strawberries and peaches too.
Tap the mold on the counter to make sure all of the layers settle. Use a small spoon to drag vertically from the bottom to the top of the mold a few times to create a swirled pattern.
Gently tap the mold on the counter to remove any air bubbles. Insert the popsicle sticks, and then freeze for at least 6 hours, or overnight. Enjoy!
Irish You Were Here!
It doesn't need to be St. Patty's day for us to enjoy a nice Guinness and some corned beef and cabbage. It also doesn't need to be a holiday to listen to some familiar Irish tunes! This week, the Celts are taking over our Spotify playlist and are bringing you folk, rock, and traditional Irish music. If this doesn't inspire your next trip to Ireland, then check out this beautiful, poetic video from our friends at Discover Ireland. #FillYourHeartWithIreland

Behind The Scenes at Camelback Travel with Nick Moran
One destination I keep coming back to is Peru – a land with much more to offer than mysterious mountaintop citadels and colorfully-clad alpacas. Peru offers thousands of years of human history (back to the Mesopotamian days!)
For the well-heeled adventurer, there may be no better destination than Peru for top notch adventure combined with plush accommodations. A day can be spent white water rafting, riding horseback or bicycling between Incan ruins. Imagine helicoptering to sacred mountain peaks and hot springs, and returning in time for a 5-star dinner and a night in a monastery refurbished to the nines.
Some of my favorite memories from Peru revolve around the incredible cuisine. My favorites are the original ceviche (sorry Mexico), the perfect alpaca steaks, and the charred octopus and pisco sours, enjoyed with views of pre-Columbian ruins, or sunsets over the South Pacific…
And the destination continues to develop! For my next trip, I can’t wait to check out the freshly opened Cirqa Hotel: a stylishly repurposed monastery in “The White City”, culinary capital of Peru and gateway to Colca Canyon, said to be twice as deep as the Grand Canyon – international travel cannot open up soon enough!
